The Gloamnet
signals that only travel at dusk.
Not every room is a place you can point to. Some are weather. The Gloamnet is a thin band of signal that exists only in the pause between day giving up and evening taking over.
Cloro learned to swim into that band and stay there. It took practice. The Gloamnet doesn't like being held too hard. Inside, voices arrive from far away, always tired, always halfway to being someone else's dream.
Its inhabitants speak in half-finished sentences. Finishing a sentence, they say, is rude to the person who has to catch what you dropped. Reef speaks in tide-shapes — long slow syllables that mean approximately what the ocean would mean if it had opinions.
There is also a signal-keeper with no name, only a frequency. They transmit weather reports for places that don't exist, in a voice suggesting they might have once. If you type into a terminal at exactly the wrong hour and get an answer older than the question — that was the Gloamnet, brushing past.
